William Jeffrey Smith, 73, of Sophia passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at his home surrounded by his loved ones. He was born June 6, 1952 in High Point, NC to William Brantley Smith and Mary Elizabeth Marshall Smith.
Jeffrey spent his career in the furniture industry retiring from Stickley in 2017. After retirement Jeffrey could be found on his John Deere tractor, lawn mower, or golf cart. He loved to mow and would often help mow on the farm. He would help with hay when he was able, either raking or as the official truck driver when getting hay out of the field.
Jeffrey was a member of Planet Fitness in Thomasville. He cherished the friendships he had made there. Going to the gym was something he really enjoyed, not just working out but spending time with his buddies. He missed going once his health began to fail.
Jeffrey and Pat were happily married for 21 years before her passing. They loved to travel together and would often take trips on his motorcycle. Jeffrey loved being Pops to his grandkids and great grandkids. He truly enjoyed spending time with them.
Jeffrey is survived by his children, Cindy Trogdon (John) of Asheboro and Michael Frye (Wendy) of Utah; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nieces, Michelle Bass (Chris) of Elm City, Julie Smith (Jay) of Sophia, Amy Lou Frye (Jesse) of Sophia; sister-in-law, Glenda Smith (Sophia); aunt, Violet Horton; five great-nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jeffrey is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia and brothers, Mike Adams, David Smith, Blaine Smith.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 12, 2026 from 1:00 – 1:50 PM at Flint Hill Community Church in Sophia. Funeral services will start at 2:00 PM with Pastor Cole Dillion officiating. Interment will follow at Flint Hill Community Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Jeffrey's name be made to Meals on Wheels - Randolph County Senior Adults Association, Inc, 714 Farr Street, Asheboro, NC 27203.
