Walter Douglas Badgett, 68, of Sophia passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, March 3, 2026. He was born February 11, 1958 in Hamilton, OH to Walter Franklin Badgett and Ruth Miriam Hansmann Badgett.
Walter was born and raised in Ohio. He graduated from Western Hills High School in Cincinnati, class of 1975. Soon after he joined Navy and spent six years serving, earning the rank of E-5. He then spent the next 40 years with the FAA as an avionics safety inspector. You could find Walter spending time and doing anything outdoors. Walter was an avid Harley rider, loved bowling, riding horses, and small rodeos. He will be loved and missed by all who know him.
Walter is survived by his loving wife, Mary Badgett of the home; sons, Douglas Walter Badgett of Sophia, William Ray Badgett (Maisie Fugut) of Sophia; grandchild, Bonnibell “The Bean”; and by his closest friend since high school, Cindy Crabtree.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 15, 2026 from 2:00 – 2:50 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 600 S. Main St., Randleman. Memorial services will start at 3:00 PM in the Eddie Pugh Memorial Chapel with Randolph County Honor Guard providing Military Honors. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Salisbury National Cemetery.
