Virginia Mae McIntyre

Virginia Mae Brown McIntyre of Troy passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at the age of 95 years and 7 months.

Mrs. McIntyre was born on June 27, 1930, in Robbins, NC, the 5th of 12 children, to James Madison Brown and Blanche Ray Brown. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband James Leonard McIntyre, her eldest daughter Ann McIntyre McFayden, son-in-law John Andrews, grandson Johnny Andrews, and 7 of her 11 siblings – Geneva, Roberta, Georgia, Dorothy, Janie, Clara, and David.

A long-time and active member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Troy, Virginia was strong in her faith and love for the Lord. Anyone fortunate enough to know her is certain that she was greeted in heaven with a proclamation of “Well done, good and faithful servant”!

Along with her faith, Virginia’s other passions centered around a genuine love for reading and knowledge, gardening, canning and preserving fruits and vegetables, cooking for and feeding all who entered her home, and quilting. Most of all, she loved each and every member of her family and every friend who crossed her path, just as much as she loved every minute spent with them.

Virginia is survived by three daughters – Betty (Randy), Cathy (Danny) and Jamie (Philip), and son-in-law Don, 11 grandchildren - Kenny, Dawn, Renee, Charlene, Jimmy, Amy, Chrystal, Danielle, Zach, Emily and Catie; 43 great grandchildren, 25 great-great grandchildren (and 2 more arriving this year). She is also survived by one brother, Winfred, and three sisters Lib, Kay and Rose, and too-numerous-to-count nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services are planned for Friday, January 30, 2:00 pm, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Troy with Rev. Rodney Holmes officiating, and burial in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be on Thursday, January 29, 6-8 pm, at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, and at other times at the home.

Special message from the McIntyre family: We want to extend a special thank you to Vada and Tasha for assisting us in caring for Mama and making sure there was plenty of food in the house, and for every single visitor from family, her church and neighborhood, and all others who whispered a prayer for the most wonderful Mama and Grandma that anyone could have ever been blessed with.

On-line condolences may be made at www.pughfuneralhome.com.
