Velon Marjorie Nelson, (Maw Maw) age 96, of Asheboro, passed away at her home on August 5, 2020.
Marjorie was born February 7, 1924 in Randolph County to Jack and Lula Brown Williamson. She was a member of Browers Chapel United Methodist Church and was retired from General Electric after 32 years of service. Maw Maw loved to help others, enjoyed making quilts and loved taking care of children. She always gave everything she had to help others.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Nelson, and their daughter, Priscilla Lee Nelson Allred (Pat) and her husband, Donald Edwin Allred, sisters Myrtle W. Burrow, Viola W. McCollum, brothers Carson, Duffy, James (Jim) and Jack (Shad) Williamson.
She is survived by three grandchildren, Todd Allred and wife Darlene of Randleman, Karen Allred Handy and husband Steve of Wilkesboro, and Melinda Allred of Randleman. She is also survived by sisters Peggy Williams of Asheboro, Jenny Purgason of Randleman and brother Roy Williamson of Asheboro. Maw Maw had five great grandchildren, Dallas Handy, Hunter Allred, Hannah Sutphin and husband Connor, Dwayne Morris and wife Amber, and Chris Morris and wife Kelsey, and two great great grandchildren, Bryleigh and Henry Morris.
Marjorie's body will lie in state on Sunday, August 9, 2020 from 9:00-10:30 am at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, in Asheboro.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, August 9, 2020 at 11:00 am at Randolph Memorial Park in Asheboro.
The family request no food, but flowers will be accepted, or donations may be made to Hospice of Randolph.
