Vance Shuler, age 86, of Asheboro passed away on September 8, 2023 at the Randolph Hospice House.
Mr. Shuler was born in Franklin, NC on February 7, 1937 to Samuel and Daisy Coggins Shuler. Vance served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Cold War. He worked for 50 years as an equipment operator with the pipeline industry. In addition to his parents, Vance was preceded in death by his son, Brian Shuler, grandsons, Gary Prater, Jr. and Joshua Davenport, sister, Florence Foxx, and brothers, Ray Shuler and John Shuler. Vance loved doing yard work and watching westerns. In his younger years, Vance enjoyed rabbit hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Melinda Henry Shuler; children, Tinna Prater (Gary, Sr.), Ricky Shuler, Shirley Wilkins (Jackie), Lisa Davenport (Eddie, Sr.-deceased) and her partner Jimmy Powers, Stephanie Bell (Brian), Jesse Henry (Jacquelynn), and Katrina Cranford (Clayton); grandchildren, Theresa, Amanda, Dylan, Vance, Jackie, Jr., Cody, Eddie, Jr., Jeremiah, Leslie, Charles, Dakota, Chelsea, Eerie, Levi, Mercedes, and Zack; 24 great grandchildren; brothers, Howard Shuler (Phyllis), Leroy Shuler (Josephine), and Verlon Shuler (Linda); brother-in-law, Wade Henry; sister-in-law, Regina Womac; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be a combined service and visitation for Melinda and Vance. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, from 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave., Asheboro. The funeral services will follow at 5:00 pm in the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Marcus Wall officiating. Military honors for Vance will follow the service by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
