Thelma Irene Shank

Thelma Irene Shank, age 102, of Troy, passed away on Monday, May 30, 2022 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.  

Thelma was born on March 29, 1920 in Newburg PA to the late Stoey M. Witter and Olive Gaston Witter.  She was a Librarian in the Cumberland Valley PA school system for  20 years.  Thelma loved reading books and doing crossword puzzles, and she was great at Scrabble.  She enjoyed sewing and crocheting, making afghans and bears for the children at Victory Junction.  She also enjoyed cooking.  She was known for her cookies, her Shoe Fly pie, and cheesecakes. She loved bird watching. Thelma was a member of Ophir United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and was President of the Women's Association.  

Thelma is survived by daughters: Linda Shank (Alan Ford) of San Rafael, CA, Rita Zimmerman (Fred Meyers) of Czech Republic, and Stephanie Rosencrans (Michael Brechner) of Ft. Bragg, CA; two great granddaughters: Elizabeth Fagan and Erica Shank.  She was preceded in death by her husband Paul David Shank, daughter Connie Riggins, grandson Jeffery Shank, and sister Helen Anderson. 

There will be a graveside service held on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Ophir United Methodist Church Cemetery, 2024 Ophir Avenue, Troy, NC 27371.  Rev. Bill Knapp will be officiating.
