Sylvia Marie McElroy Harvel

Sylvia Marie McElroy Harvel, age 76, of Asheboro passed away on September 11, 2026 at her home surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Harvel was born in Duncannon, North Ireland on February 6, 1950 to Hugh and Margaret Murphy McElroy. She was employed with Black & Decker for 15 years and was a member of East Side Baptist Church. Sylvia loved birdwatching, reading, and mowing her yard. She always put her family first and loved being a wife, mom, and grandmother. She loved taking care of her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Melissa Smith Blue (Kevin), Claire Small, and Kenneth Harvel (Melissa); grandchildren, Billy Smith, Ryan Meadows, Nina Small, and Dylan Harvel; sisters, Eva Allen (Jim), Doreen Waring, Geraldine Mimnagh (Shawn), Jeanette McCann (Patrick), and Audrey Brown; and her faithful canine companion, Abby, whom she loved very much.

In addition to her parents, Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband, Ken Harvel, granddaughter, Kaylee Harvel, brother, Patrick McElroy, and sister, Mildred Martin.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 16, 2026 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2026 at 1:00 pm at the Pisgah Church Cemetery, 5594 Pisgah Covered Bridge Road in Asheboro with Pastor Troy Carter officiating.
