Sue Ellen Ward

Sue Ellen Ward, age 63, of Asheboro passed away on December 17, 2025 at the Randolph Hospice House.

Ms. Ward was born in Sodus Point, NY on November 5, 1962 to Arthur and Wilma Tierson Ward. Sue was employed with the NC Zoo for 30 years. Sue loved her New York Yankees, going to the beach, and fishing. She loved everyone, especially her 6 grandchildren.

In addition to parents, Sue was preceded in death by her son, Travis Halterman, brother, Montgomery Ward, and nephew, Michael Ward.

She is survived by her husband, Franklin Hancock; daughter, Barbara Halterman (Israel Lira); grandchildren, Ivan Cruz, Hayle Cruz, Nicholas Lira, Aayron Hunt, and Nate Hunt; brother, Dean Ward (Karen); sister, Joan Pulliam (Cody); nieces and nephews, Becky Guerieri, Luke Ward, Steven Demay, Jennifer Demay, and Christi Pearson.

The family will receive friends on Friday, December 19, 2025 from 12:00-2:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro. Funeral services will follow on Friday at 2:00 pm at the Glenn “Mac” Pugh Chapel.
