Helen Ruth McLeod

Helen Ruth Thompson McLeod, age 90, of Troy, passed away peacefully at Autumn Care of Biscoe on Monday, July 31, 2023.

Helen was born in Montgomery County, NC on October 28, 1932, to Jack Thompson and Ruth Parsons Thompson. Helen was a graduate of Mt. Gilead High School and a 1951 graduate of Raleigh School of Commerce. She loved to garden, vegetables and flowers and loved to help people. She enjoyed cooking and was known for her turkey dressing. She helped with the local Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed square dancing and watching stock car racing, especially her favorite driver Benny Parsons. She worked as an Eligibility Supervisor for Social Services for 35 years. Helen was a past member of Holly Mt. Baptist Church, Trinity United Methodist Church, and New Covenant Church. She loved to spoil her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Helen is survived by her husband of 39 years, Raymond McLeod; sons: Don Sneed Jr. (Lorna) of Rolla Missouri, Kenneth Sneed (Linda) of Candor, Sammy Sneed of Troy, and Stanley Sneed (Penny) of Candor; step-son:  Robert McLeod of Candor; step-daughters: Donna M. Tyndall (Junior) of Candor, and Pamela M. Henderson of Candor; sister: Janice Eller of Salisbury; grandchildren: Kenneth Jr., Chris, Kevin, Keith, Matthew, Charles, Josh, Seth and Brandy; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Don Sneed Sr.; sister Elizabeth Boyd; and daughter-in-law Elaine White.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 3, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Pugh Troy Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Troy. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, August 4, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Pugh Troy Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Kevin Sneed officiating. Burial will be at the Baldwin Cemetery, McLeod Dr., Candor, NC.
