With profound love and gratitude, our family announces the peaceful passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend, Ruth Burr Green on April 24, 2026, at the age of 77. She left this world surrounded by the people she loved most fiercely throughout life, her family. Born on May 14, 1948, in Chesterfield, SC, she was a woman who cherished the Lord with all her heart and loved her family with deep devotion.
She shared more than 60 years with her husband, Gerald “Jerry” Green. Ruth is preceded in death by her father, Burell Preston Burr, and her mother, Hester Curtis Burr. She is survived by her devoted daughters, Tammy and husband Randy Cox of Asheboro, Tina and husband David Ivey of Franklinville, and son Steven and wife Katherine Green of Randleman. She is also survived by her precious “Angels,” as she referred them as, Megan Millikan and husband Cody, Sarah Cox, Trevor Ivey, Emma Green and Ella Green. GreatGrandchildren Noah Millikan and Baby Boy Millikan. Her sister, Margie Wright of Asheboro, and sister-in-law, Sandra Green of Marston, along with several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
For many years, Ruth cared for children in her home and worked as a teacher assistant in the Randolph County School System. She was a long-time member of Sophia Baptist Church. She taught an adult Sunday school class for many years. Her family and everyone who knew her will carry her legacy; a heart rooted in faith and love that never wavered. In addition to her love for her family, she believed whole heartly in the power of her faith in God.
Ruth was known for her generous spirit. She sent cards to everyone she knew for birthdays, get-wells, sympathy and moments of thanks. There was rarely an occasion, big or small, that she did not acknowledge with a handwritten card.
The family would like to acknowledge some special people that touched her life. Her lifelong friend, Judy, long-time neighbor, Starla, and family friend, Barbara. A special thankyou to Gentiva Hospice of Asheboro for the phenomenal care they provided. In honor of Ruth’s famous “Snack Plates”, donations can be made to Vintage Church for their Run 5 Feed 5 program, which provides meals for children throughout the summer.
