Ronald “Ron” David Greene, age 77, of Asheboro passed away on December 24, 2025 at the Randolph Hospice House.
Mr. Greene was born in Randolph County on September 29, 1948 to Atlas and Elizabeth Reeder Greene. Ron grew up in Whynot and became self-sufficient at an early age. Ron retired from UPS with over 25 years of service and was a volunteer fireman with the Seagrove Fire Department for 25 years. Ron was a member of Asbury Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, James Greene.
Ron had a dry wit and was a jokester. He loved animals and hunting. When he was a little boy, Ron had a pet squirrel that chewed through his sock drawer. He loved to fish and enjoyed his time at the beach. He loved to ride his Harley Davidson motorcycle and was a member of the “Million Mile Club” with UPS. He was proud of his awards for safe driving.
Ron could do anything he set his mind to. He built his own house which he called “The house in the woods” with the help of his engineer friend. They used parts of the “Old Gillian House” in the construction. He was handy with machinery, including tractors, four-wheelers, side-by-sides, and many others.
Ron was a very generous man, who loved his family dearly. He would often pull over on the side of the road to pick flowers with his young daughter, Julie. He became a grandad and proudly answered to the name of Pawpaw.
Ron is survived by his wife, Pat Deaton Greene; daughter, Julie Greene Stell; son, Lane David Greene; grandchildren, Abbie Elizabeth Stell, Newton Ransom Stell V, and Kiersten Barber; siblings, Larry Greene (Libby), Peggy Jordan (Tommy), Leon Greene (Wendy), Tammy Cagle, Lynne Greene, and Patsy Simmons; brother-in-law, Dale Deaton; his beloved one-eyed bobtail cat, Scooter.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 3, 2026 from 12:00-1:50 pm at Asbury Baptist Church, 218 Asbury Church Road in Seagrove. Funeral services will follow on Saturday at 2:00 pm at the church with Rev. Allen Mashburn officiating. Burial will be held in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christians United of Southern Randolph County, 424 E. Main Street, Seagrove, NC 27341 or the Children’s Home Society of North Carolina, PO Box 14608, Greensboro, NC 27415
