Emma Rayburn York Blevins, 86, of Asheboro died Monday, September 26, 2016 at Carillon Assisted Living, Asheboro. Mrs. Blevins was born in Loudon, TN to the late Orvis Eran and Mary Belle Brown York. She was preceded in death by husband, Neal Blevins; son, Robert Jeffery Blevins; brothers, James and John York; and son-in-law, Jack Scott.
Mrs. Blevins' lifework was to serve God. She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church, where she loved to sing in the choir. Her faith led her to volunteer for church missions, serve as a board member of C.U.O.C., volunteer at the Women's Shelter and counsel anyone in need. Mrs. Blevins' calling was teaching. She was a proud member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society. She dearly cherished teaching the fourth grade and exceptional education classes at several Asheboro City elementary schools during her 30 year teaching career. Mrs. Blevins' passion was her love for children. Her own and all she met. She marveled at nature and loved to explore God's creation. Mrs. Blevins received many awards for her achievements including Teacher of the Year and Outstanding Senior Citizen. Her faith, love and compassion led to an extraordinary life.
Surviving are her daughters, Beth Scott and Susie(Steve) Bracey; daughter-in-law, Anne Blevins Bergamini; son, Gary(Nancy) Blevins; Grandchildren, Ryan Blevins, Robert(Katye) Blevins, Matthew Blevins, Shelly(Chad) Cook, Stacy(Kevin) Ulrick, Michelle(Matt) Bailer and Christi Bracey; Great Grandchildren, McKenzie Cook, Jackson Cook, Olivia Blevins, Noah Bailer and Austin Ulrick.
The family will receive friends Thursday, September 29, 2016 from 5 to 7 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC. The funeral service will be held Friday, September 30, 2016 at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church, with Dr. Scotty Carpenter, Mark Hall and Dr. John Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park.
Mrs. Blevins' family would like to express sincere gratitude to the staff at Carillon Assisted Living and the staff at Randolph Hospice for their professional and compassionate care. A heartfelt thank you to Carolyn Thomas for her special friendship and to everyone at First Baptist Church of Asheboro.
