Obituary

Ray Woodrow Wilson, Jr – 88

On May 25, 2026, heaven rolled out the red carpet for Ray to meet his Lord and Savior. He was born on May 23, 1938, in Bergoo, WV. to Rev. Ray Woodrow Wilson, Sr. and Dorothy Irene Wilson. Ray was a graduate of South Charleston high school and attended Morris Harvey College in WV. He began his lengthy career of 40 years in the chemical industry in Operations at Union Carbide Chemical Company in WV. He later moved his family to Greensboro, NC where he continued his career as Operations Manager at Moreland Chemical Company. Lastly, he transferred to Worth Chemical Company, where he was a Sales and Operations Manager until he retired in 1998.

He was predeceased in death by his parents and his sister Anna Gaye Cook. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years Sheila Hamric Wilson, son Jeffrey Ray Wilson, daughter Jennifer Wilson Furr (John), Grandchildren, Allison Julian Hopkins (Chris), Jeffrey Ray Wilson II (Elizabeth), Brooks Glenn Julian (Cambridge), Bailey Wilson Scott (Cody), and Chase Cole Wilson. Great Granddaughters, Kinsley and Kylie Hopkins, Miller and Berkleigh Wilson, Callynn and Reese Julian.

He especially enjoyed all of his time with his Grandchildren and Great Granddaughters playing games or anything else. He taught the grandchildren how to hunt and fish and was with each of his grandsons when they harvested their first deer. He cherished his loyal companion, a 14-year-old Labrador Retriever, Daisy.

Ray was loved by everyone he met and had many friends. He was a kind and gentle soul that always saw the best in everyone. He believed that a man was only as good as his word and lived by that in his own life. He was an amazing father and husband who always went out of his way to please others, especially his wife, Sheila.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Bethany United Methodist Church in West Jefferson, NC.
