Raeford Boyd "Rip" Brewer, age 85, of Asheboro died Friday, January 13, 2012 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.
Mr. Brewer was born June 25, 1926 in Mt Gilead, NC the son of Theodore Roosevelt and Mary Elizabeth Boyd "Ms Bett" Brewer.
Mr. Brewer was a native of Montgomery County, the owner/ operator of Brewer Shoe and Shoe Repair and of the Presbyterian Faith. He was a veteran of the US Navy serving in War World II. He was in the Command Task Unit 125 Point 2 in Europe, having served in both the European and Pacific Theaters. He was on the island of Tinian and assisted with the unloading of one of the atomic bombs used in the war against Japan.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Theodore Roosevelt Brewer and Mary Elizabeth Boyd "Ms Bett" Brewer; two brothers: Rayvon Brewer and Frank Brewer.
He is survived by his wife: Doris Myers Brewer; step daughter: Lynn Edwards Phillips of Bear Creek; step son: Allen Edwards of Level Cross; step granddaughter: Stephanie Edwards; two nephews: Dr. Gary T. Brewer of Wilson, OK, Dr. Alan Brewer of Aurora, CO; niece, Mary Elizabeth Brogan of Wichita, KS and his beloved dog: ChuChu.
The family will receive friends Sunday, January 15, 2012 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC. The funeral service will be held Monday, January 16, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro with Rev. Don McCaskill officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park with honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
