Phyllis Ann Kivett

September 22, 1955 — June 11, 2025

Candor

Phyllis Ann Freeman Kivett age 69, of Candor, joined her Savior in heaven on June 11, 2025. She transitioned to her heavenly home and found sweet rest in the arms of Jesus. She was surrounded by her family who fervently prayed for her to be in perfect peace.

Phyllis was born in Clovis, New Mexico. She was the daughter of the late Winfred Freeman and the late Shirley Ann Greene Freeman and all of her life she showed them honor and respect.

She was a loving wife, mother, sister, and friend to all. Her first priority was always to serve the Lord. She loved people just as they were and always wanted to show them the goodness of God. As a child, she taught herself to play the piano so that she could serve alongside her parents wherever God sent them. She spent many years playing the piano in churches and for The Kings Kids; and writing songs about faith, the power of God, the grace of Jesus, and the impact of a mother’s love. Growing up as a “Air Force brat” and a Preacher’s daughter brought her many travels. Her fondest joy as an adult was to be at home with her family. She found pleasure in her rose beds and flower gardens, her pets, and quiet mornings listening to the birds and talking to Jesus. She enjoyed laughing and cutting up with her cousins; and found delight in attending church, praising and praying to Jesus.

In all of the places she went, she carried a smile and brought with her determination to accomplish her Father’s work. She was always humble and never wanted to be the center of attention. She was never without a positive word for others or a cup of coffee. Her husband was always her rock and defender, and she was his counselor and confidant. She fiercely loved her daughters and fought for them with the strength of God. She raised them to know Christ and to call on Him.

“Little Phyll,” as she was known to most, lived a life of selflessness, kindness, and compassion. All who encountered her knew that she loved them from the moment they met her because she showed them the love and compassion of Jesus. She was from a large family and had so many friends that became her family. No one ever left her presence without hearing a sincere and heartfelt, “I love you.”

She was preceded in death by her parents, Winfred and Shirley Freeman. Left to cherish her memory and grieve her absence are her husband and helpmate for nearly 39 years, Rev. Terry Kivett of Candor; her daughter, Debby Ann Douglas; her daughter and son-in-law, Ashley and Johnny Edwards; and her cousin who has been a sister, Phyllis Bowers. She leaves behind her brother, Lonnie Freeman, and his wife Sheila, of Knoxville, TN; and Billy Freeman, of Candor; grandchildren, Justin, Matthew, Rosie; great-granddaughter, Gabby, nephews, Matthew, Alex, and Lucas; and nieces Nikki Bailey and Cheyenne Freeman.

Her prayer is that those left behind will show love to one another, keep their faith in Jesus, and know Him as their Lord and Savior so that we can join her in heaven.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Hickory Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church, 3885 Pekin Rd., Candor, NC, from noon to 1:45 PM. A Funeral Service will follow beginning at 2:00 PM with the Rev. Joe Beane, Rev. Margo Gaddy, and the Apostal Michael Dixon. The burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family would like to express sincere gratitude to the nurses, caregivers, doctors, and medical professionals who provide care and compassion to her and her family. Their work is greatly appreciated and was not unnoticed. We pray that God will continue to bless you as you have blessed Mama and her family.

In lieu of flowers, Mama would ask you to make a donation to Calvary Temple Pentecostal Holiness Church, PO Box 178, Biscoe, NC 27209 or Hickory Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church, 3885 Pekin Rd., Candor, NC 27229, in which she loved and labored.
