Phillip Lauren McDowell, age 72, of Asheboro after several years of declining health was called home to be with the Lord on January 14, 2021. He is now free from disease and limitations and is walking the street of gold. He was born on February 9, 1948 to Dallas and Clarice Farlow McDowell and grew up in the Farmer Community. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Clinton McDowell, and his sister Inez Welborn McDowell. Lauren was a 1966 graduate of Farmer High School where he played basketball and baseball. He had a love for sports that led him to continue to play in county leagues and on industrial teams after high school. After aging out of team sports, he enjoyed playing golf and watching sports. Lauren spent many years in the construction industry and had his own business L&M Construction for twenty years. He was active in his church, Cross Road Baptist Church, until he was no longer able to attend having served as a Deacon, choir member, and on the grounds committee. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Carol Morton McDowell; sons, Chris McDowell and wife Leah of Asheboro and Shannon McDowell of Alexandria, VA; brothers, Trellis McDowell and wife Deane of Trinity and Milton McDowell and wife Debbie of Denton; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. McDowell will lie in repose on Monday, January 18, 2021 from 11:00 am-5:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro.
