Patsy June Hucks Moore, age 93, of Asheboro passed away on June 20, 2026 at the Randolph Hospice House.
Pat was born on January 12, 1933 to Leon and Pauline Taylor Hucks, the 2nd oldest of 6 children. She moved 15 times throughout Virginia, South Carolina, and North Carolina, where her Daddy worked in the textile industry for Klopman Mills, which became Burlington Industries.
She received her degree from Radford College in Virginia, then went to work at Klopman Mills where she met my Daddy, James (Jim) Moore. They were married for 51 years.
Pat taught Personal Development at Asheboro Business School, instructing students about dressing professionally, manners, speaking correct English at work and on the phone, how to recognize dinner table items and their proper order and uses in a professional setting.
Pat was crowned Miss Randleman in 1953 and Senior Ms. Randolph County in 2015. She judged and organized Miss Randolph County Beauty Pageant’s and several others across the state. Sally Stedman was crowned Miss North Carolina and Mama accompanied her to the Miss America Pageant.
She was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader for several years.
Pat was a devoted Christian. She was a member of the Capitol Hill Prayer Partners for Our Nation, participating in the Washington DC Government Prayer for daily faxes, also attending several banquets and walking the Capitol and Senate chambers offering prayer for issues concerning our nation. She would visit the NC Legislative Government Offices, where she would go into chambers and hallways to pray with lawmakers. Pat once wrote a letter to President George Bush, Sr inviting then USSR President Gorbachev to visit our home in Asheboro to see a typical southern home and meet a traditional family, receiving a cordial reply back thanking her for the kind offer!
Pat was a member of the Christian United Outreach Center Prayer Team, sat on the board with my Daddy and volunteered in the food pantry from the beginning of the program in November 1993 until 8 weeks ago.
She and my Daddy were youth program leaders at First United Methodist Church for years, going on beach trips, ski weekends, and endless Wednesday night suppers and programs with hoards of teenagers, and went on mission trips to Brazil 3 times.
Pat traveled to the “House of Hope” in Florida many times and was a member of the Prayer team at Sunset Avenue Church of God for many years.
Pat was involved in Prison System Prayer & Bible Teaching at the female prison in Troy, NC.
She spoke to many women’s groups at seminars across several states for “Women’s Aglow Ministries,” “Lydia Fellowship,” and “Concerned Women for America.”
She was the first President of the Jaycettes (wives of the Jaycees Club) in its inaugural years, doing philanthropic work in the community.
She was an avid Bridge player and participant in water aerobics.
She traveled to 11 countries with Daddy. They also traveled to all 49 states in their motorhome. The vanity plate on the front of the motorhome said: Mark 16:1 “Go into all the world and preach the gospel.” This drew a lot of people-one man knocked on their door on Sunday morning with his Bible, saying “I’m ready for church, ya’ll having church here this morning?”
She and Daddy served in the Israeli army 7 times as volunteers-cleaning army vehicles, making bags for bullets, and cleaning guns. Sand permeated everything, so they had to be cleaned on a regular basis. They demonstrated the love and servant’s heart of Jesus without preaching it or saying his name-which was prohibited. They were members of “Volunteers for Israel,” which consisted of groups of 20 who made Israeli flags to go on American tanks used by Israel.
Pat is dancing with Jesus now and reunited with all her family and friends who have gone before.
She is survived by her daughter, Gwyn Moore Lemonds of Laurinburg, NC; grandchildren, Nicolle Lemonds of New York City, Noelle Lemonds of Denver, CO, Howard (Tripp) Lemonds of Franklinville, NC, Tyler Lemonds and wife Zelda of Phoenix, AZ, Hannah Odum of Swansboro, NC, and Lucy Odum Buck and husband Lee of Newport, NC; great grandchildren, Vera Lemonds of Athens, GA, Scarlett Lemonds of Phoenix, AZ, and Marshall Lemonds of Phoenix, AZ; siblings, Ronnie Hucks and wife Hilda of Greensboro, NC, Diane Hucks Bennett and husband Charles of Morehead City, NC, and Terry Hucks and wife Heidie of Powhatan, VA.
In addition to her parents, Pat was preceded in death by her husband, James Moore, daughter, Lori Moore Odum, grandchild, Tracy Odum, and sisters, Jackie Hucks Morris and Jill Hucks Craven.
A Celebration of Pat’s life will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at 1:00 pm at Sunset Avenue Church of God with Pastor Boyd Byerly officiating. A visitation will follow in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Christian United Outreach Center, P.O. Box 784, Asheboro, NC 27204 or the Randolph Hospice House, 446 Vision Drive, Asheboro, NC 27203.
Many have said Pat Moore was a true example of a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and the epitome of a fine Southern lady. TO GOD BE THE GLORY!
