Olive Shelor Strider

Mrs. Olive Shelor Strider, age 92, of Love Joy Rd., Troy passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at FirstHealth Hospice and Palliative Care, Pinehurst. Mrs. Strider was born June 3, 1924, in Walhalla, South Carolina, the daughter of Thomas Balus and Olive Hunt Shelor. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Troy; Mrs. Strider was a graduate of Winthrop College. Upon graduation she taught one year at Wingate College and the remainder of her career was spent teaching in the Montgomery County School System where she retired with twenty years of service. She was a loving, kind, compassionate and supportive person who enjoyed reading (reading her Bible every night), gardening, doing crossword puzzles and cooking especially for her family. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of thirty-four years, John Robert Strider; brothers: Balus Shelor and Joe Shelor; and sister: Jane Graham. She is survived by three sons: Robert Strider and wife, Phyllis of Mt. Gilead, Tommy Strider of New Orleans, LA and Jacky Strider and wife, Faye of Mt. Gilead; one daughter: Shelor Strider Morgan and husband, Richard of Candor; one brother: Jerry Shelor of Seneca, SC; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A private funeral service will be held. Interment will be in Southside Cemetery, Troy.
