Obituary

Mary Magdalene Owens, age 90, of Asheboro, North Carolina, passed away on May 21, 2026, at Randolph Hospice House.

Mary was born on July 26, 1935, to the late J.A. Van Owens and Mattie Craven Owens.

Mary was a faithful member of First Baptist Church until her health no longer allowed her to attend. She loved the babies and young children in her family and had a special love for dogs. Mary was known for her sweet spirit, simple nature, and strong Christian faith.

She was a hard worker who carried the values instilled in her by her mother throughout her life. Mary was strong, independent, and devoted to her family, especially her mother, whom she faithfully stayed by the side of for many years.

Mary was blessed to have a wonderful Sunday school class who loved and visited her on a regular basis.

The family is forever grateful for the love and care that she had at Crossroads Memory Care.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Martha Broadway and Juanita Williams.

Mary is survived by her nephews, Michael Broadway, Daniel Broadway, Samuel Broadway, and David Williams; as well as family friend, Phyllis Barnes.

Miss Owens will lie in repose on Sunday, May 24, 2026 from noon-5:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Oaklawn Cemetery, weather permitting. In the event of inclement weather, the service will be moved to the Glenn “Mac” Chapel.
