Lib Lopienski

Mary Elizabeth "Lib" Lopienski, age 92, of Asheboro passed away on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at her home.

Mrs. Lopienski was  born in Robbins, NC on March 26, 1930 to Maggie and Jonas Burns, the ninth child in a family of 10 children.  Lib married Ben Lopienski in 1953.  She retired, after 25 years of service, as a Teacher's Aide with Asheboro City Schools, working at Lindley Park Elementary and Charles McCrary Elementary Schools.  Lib was a member of Rushwood Church and Central Wesleyan Church, where she was a former Sunday School teacher and also directed CYC, Vacation Bible Schools, and many church plays.  In addition to her parents, Lib was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard "Ben" Lopienski, 6 brothers, and 3 sisters.  She was a talented seamstress and made clothes, costumes, and christening outfits for her children and grandchildren. She also made her costumes to wear to church, school, and nursing homes to bring joy to others.  Lib's most important role was that of a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She also enjoyed cooking and entertaining for her family and holidays.

She was always a Christian example for her family and others.  Her life's goal was to live for the Lord and make Heaven her final home.

She is survived by her children, Benny Lopienski (Linda), Chris Lopienski (Linda Elkin), Debbie Coble (Alfred), and Bernadine Wardlaw (Mark);  grandchildren, John Lopienski (Katie), Elizabeth McElreath (Beau), Ashley Fox (Adam), Eric Wardlaw (Julie), Jennifer Wardlaw, Savannah Abernethy (Jason), and Olivia Wardlaw, John Elkin; and great-grandchildren, Judson Lopienski, Madison Arroyo, Weston McElreath, Anna McElreath, and Houston Wardlaw.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 15, 2022 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro.  Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 16, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Rushwood Church, 1810 Old Farmer Road in Asheboro with Dr. Brent Tysinger officiating.  Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park.
