Mabel Ruth Hoover Horton, age 85, of Asheboro passed away on July 2, 2025 at Alpine Health & Rehabilitation.
Ms. Horton was born in Asheboro on July 15, 1939 to Andrew and Vernie Blackwood Hoover. She grew up in the Farmer Community, was a 1957 graduate of Farmer High School, and received her associate’s degree in general education from Haywood Community College. Mabel was a woman of great faith and for many years was an active member of Mountain View Independent Methodist Church. She loved her church family and was beloved by them. As a military wife, Mabel was able to travel and live all over the world. Mabel loved her family dearly.
In addition to her parents, Mabel was preceded in death by her siblings, Rebecca Loflin, Margaret Blake, Cleo Auman, Lloyd Hoover, and Herman Hoover.
She is survived by her daughter, Angela Gilleland and husband Scott of John’s Creek, GA; grandson, Jackson Gilleland; granddaughter, Ava Ruby Gilleland; and many nieces, nephews, “adopted” family members; and her best friend since childhood, Ann Poole.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 6, 2025 from 1:00-2:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro. A memorial service will follow on Sunday at 2:00 pm at the Glenn “Mac” Pugh Chapel with Rev. Clint Kearns officiating.
