Katrina Evonne Neelon
Katrina “Trina” Evonne Neelon was born on November 9, 1953 to George and Lucille Nealey in Detroit, Michigan, and went home to be with the Lord on May 2, 2026 in Asheboro, North Carolina.
Raised in Berlin Heights, Ohio, Trina was a proud member of the Edison Charger marching band and graduated Edison High School in 1971. She spent many days at the racetrack in Norwalk with her family to watch her brother race, was actively involved in the Annual Basket Festival, and could often be found enjoying ice cream by the lake in Huron.
After high school, Trina began working at Ford Motor Plant in Lorain,Ohio, where she met Michael. The two enjoyed playing hookey from work to go fishing and enjoying each other’s company, and eventually wed on March 4, 1978.
Michael and Trina began their family in Texas and made many friends before moving to Wisconsin where they lived on a dairy farm for a few years prior to settling in New London, North Carolina.
Trina dedicated several years of her career in the banking industry, working her way to become the Branch Manager at a First Bank in Albemarle, North Carolina. Outside of work, she was actively involved in her community in the area, participating in a local bowling league, a chapter of the Red Hat Society, a group of Bunco ladies, and other civilian groups putting her knowledge and skills to help benefit others.
Wherever Trina went, she was bound to know somebody as she treated everyone with the same kindness as someone she had known for years. She also gave her time generously through local outreach efforts, always having a heart for those in need.
Any type of crafting was Trina’s joy - whether crocheting, photography, sewing, quilting with her mom, painting, drawing, or decorating. Trina also had a deep love for food and family gatherings. Her chicken and dumplings, meatloaf, and lasagna became legendary among those who knew her, and she never passed up the opportunity to enjoy or share a good meal - especially if it involved going out to eat Mexican food.
Trina was known for her vibrant personality, quick wit, and unmistakable sass. She had a special fondness for anything adorned with chickens, a small detail that brought her a great deal of joy and became part of her signature charm.
Trina was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Ray Nealey.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 48 years, Michael Neelon of Asheboro; her children, Christopher Neelon (Chrissy) of Asheboro, Sean Neelon of Asheboro, and Jennifer Hulin (Chandler) of Greensboro; and her five beloved grandchildren, Nathan, Skyla, Brayson, Casher, and Howl. She is also survived by her brother Ron Nealey (Sylvia) of Collins, Ohio; her sister-in-law to her late brother, Raymond Nealey (Jean) of Berlin Heights, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at 1:00pm at the home of Chris and Chrissy. Please contact the family for address and additional details. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at 11:00am at the Riverside Cemetery in Berlin Heights, Ohio. Trina’s warmth, humor, and creativity will be deeply missed, but we find comfort in knowing she is at peace in the presence of the Lord. Her love and faith will continue to guide and live on in all who knew and loved her.
