Joan Floyd Hammond, age 88, of Asheboro passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at Randolph Hospice House.
Mrs. Hammond was born in Denton, NC on February 19, 1931 to Lauton Lewis and Elsie Hedrick Floyd. She was a graduate of Denton High School and Ashemore Business College. Joan was formerly employed with the Davidson County Courthouse and the Randolph County Courthouse. She retired as a Teacher Assistant with Farmer Elementary School, where she loved reading to the kids. She was a member of New Jerusalem Reformed Church, where she was active in the Women's Guild. In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Hammond, sisters, Arlene Sturdivant, Edith Regan, and Kate Bivens, and brother, Bryce Floyd. Joan loved her family, especially her great grandkids. She enjoyed cooking for her family and always made "the best" barbecue sauce for every church barbecue.
She is survived by her daughters, Leesa Hammond Kiser and husband Ray of Asheboro and Debra Hammond Brower of Asheboro; son, Neal Hammond of Asheboro; grandchildren, Kevin Kiser and wife Kaitlyn of Asheboro, Matthew Kiser and wife Ashleigh of Asheboro, Ashley McKee and husband Michael of Marietta, GA, Katie Smith of Asheboro, Trey Hammond and Jeneal Hammond both of Asheboro; great grandchildren, Caden Smith, Leighton Smith, Emalyn Kiser, Ellarie Kiser, Kinslee Kiser, Adalyn McKee, and Braxton McKee.
The family will receive friends Sunday, January 26, 2020 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro and other times at her home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 27, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at New Jerusalem Reformed Church, 4104 Jerusalem Road in Lexington with Rev. Joe Coltrane and Pastor Michael McKee officiating. Burial will follow in the Science Hill Friends Meeting Cemetery.
