Jean Saunders Teague, age 83, of Asheboro passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Teague was born on February 2, 1942, the daughter of Burl and Lula Luther Saunders.
Jean was raised in the Eleazer community and was a 1959 graduate of Farmer High School. After high school, she went to beauty school and upon graduation was offered a job at Leon’s in Greensboro. Being from a small community, she knew the big city was not for her. Jean worked in several salons in Asheboro before eventually having a shop in her home. She was a hairdresser and owner/operator of Jean’s Beauty Shop for 46 years. She attended Browers Wesleyan Church where she enjoyed working in the nursery. Jean loved being outside and cutting grass and was an avid reader. She rarely missed an ACC basketball game or horse race. Jean enjoyed watching Andy Griffith and the Price is Right with her caregiver Ms. Ruthie. She loved her grandchildren dearly-they were her pride and joy. In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Farrell Teague and her brother, Roland Saunders
She is survived by her children, Leigh Ann Kirkman (Dennis Mabe) of Asheboro, Michael Teague (Susan) of Asheboro, and Christie Callicutt (Jeff) of Asheboro; grandchildren, Caleb Kirkman (Shelley), Collin Kirkman (Grace), Lauren Mabe, Matthew Mabe, Matthew Teague (Emily), Micah Teague, Sarah Teague, Caleigh Callicutt, and Connor Callicutt; sister, Martha Varner of Lexington; and brothers, Jimmy Sanders of Asheboro and Ronnie Saunders of Eleazer.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 11:00-11:50 am at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro. Funeral services will follow on Saturday at 12 noon at the Glenn “Mac” Pugh Chapel with Rev. Bryant Madren officiating. Burial will be held at Oaklawn Cemetery.
The family would like to express a special thank you to Hospice of Randolph and especially her nurses Lannette White and Stephanie Ritter and her CNA Amanda Owens. They would also like to give special thanks to not only her caregiver but her friend, Ruthie Hayes. Ms. Ruthie will always be a part of our family.
