Janet Trogdon Hoogkamp

d. February 5, 2022

Martha Jeanette “Janet” Trogdon Hoogkamp went home to be with the Lord on February 5, 2022. Her loving and devoted husband of over six decades was at her side.

Mrs. Hoogkamp was born on May 2, 1938, to Ivan and Edith Trogdon. Her birthday was extra special to her family because she shared it with her older sister. She graduated from Seagrove High School in 1956. In October of the same year, she married Daniel Hoogkamp. Over the course of her life she worked at Bossong Hosiery Mill, General Electric, Olde Towne Deli and eventually retired from Randolph County Schools after working in the cafeteria at Southwest Middle School.

Janet was a true example of servanthood. For most of her adult life, she took an active role in the church as a song leader, a member of trios, quartets and choirs, and looked forward to every cantata or special singing opportunity! Her love for the Lord rang from every note that came from her tenor voice. Once she and Danny were both retired, they spent all day on Mondays visiting shut-ins and nursing homes and even volunteering at Clapps Nursing Home.

She was the most at peace with her family especially if they were at the beach! She could sit for hours watching the waves with coffee in hand. She and Danny were blessed with a close network of friends that were more like family. They could often be found together around each other’s tables after Sunday night church services or frequenting their favorite eating spots on a Saturday evening. Her home was always open to the neighborhood kids and visiting relatives. Visits from family members from New York to Tennessee were always looked on with great expectations! Working in her flowers and watching the birds around her feeders brought her such great joy!

Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Ivan and Edith (Varner) Trogdon, her sister, Nola Ann Smith, and her brother, Randall Ivan Trogdon.

She is survived by her husband, Daniel Hoogkamp of Asheboro; sons, Wyatt (Jane) Hoogkamp and Brad (Kim) Hoogkamp; daughter, Tina (Bruce) Williams; grandchildren, Bethany (Wes) Adams, Brett (Natalie) Hoogkamp, Hunter (fiance, Cassi) Hoogkamp, Anna (Andrew) Smith and Trapper Hoogkamp; great grandchildren, Maggie Adams, Molly Adams, Tate Adams and Beckett Hoogkamp. She captured the hearts of a number of beloved nieces, nephews and cousins!

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at 2:00 pm at Back Creek Friends Meeting.  Burial will follow in Whynot Cemetery.
