Lois Jane Morgan Layne, 91, of Asheboro, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 20, 2024. Our mother was born in her much beloved childhood home on Lee St. to Leslie and Lois Morgan, on September 5, 1932. Mama was a 1950 graduate of Asheboro High School and attended Brevard College. She graduated from McConnell Airline School and flew with Continental Airlines as a glamorous stewardess in the 1950’s. She later settled back into life in Asheboro and worked at Asheboro Plumbing and Heating (she loved the Caviness family), and Randolph Hospital as a ward secretary. In 1961 she married Leo Layne. We always teased her about being Lois Layne, and she would laugh and say she had married Superman. Mama spent the rest of her days caring for our family. She worked a few odd jobs through the years, when necessary, but was always home to greet us after school with potato chips and RC cola. She packed our school lunches most days and there was never a time she did not cook supper. And she made the best chocolate pudding ever. She cared for our special sister, Ellen, as well as helped care for her parents, and special brother, Ralph. She showed us how to be a doer of the Word, and not just a hearer. She loved us all very well. She was a member of Fayetteville St. Baptist Church, but most importantly she knew Jesus Christ as her Savior.
In addition to her husband, daughter, parents, and brother she was preceded in death by three sisters she loved dearly—Louise, Peggy, and Alice.
She is survived by her daughters, Janna L. DeLuca (Jim), Marion L Hughes (Eddie); grandchildren —Ashley, Leslie, Tiffany, Jamie, Cole, and Summer; great grandchildren—Kytlin, Cameron, Sophia, Kaleb, Haleigh, Jordan, Jett, and Jaxon. Grands and greats, she loved you all so much, and enjoyed every moment she spent with you. Also surviving are brother, Tom Morgan, brothers in law, Paul Foust, and William Holloway, and many dear nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1:30-2:15, Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, North Carolina. Services will follow, at 2:30 pm at Pugh Funeral Home with Pastor Justin Curry officiating. The interment will be at Oaklawn Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at Cross Road Memory Care/Retirement Community for their support and care over the last 5 years.
