James Franklin Hammonds, Sr., age 75, of Asheboro passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at his home.
Mr. Hammonds was born in Randolph County on June 23, 1945 to Homer and Maxine Davis Hammonds. He worked in law enforcement for several years and was retired from Sara Lee. James attended Rushwood Church and Shady Grove Christian Church. He was a CB and Ham Radio Operator. He enjoyed visiting with loved ones and giving small gifts to them. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, and sharing stories. James always had a big smile for everyone and was a very gentle and loving spirit. He was a generous man and had a great sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife, Dianne Clark Hammonds, son, James Franklin Hammonds, Jr. of Asheboro; stepdaughters, Monette Ayers (Charles) of Star, Melissa Taylor (Fred) of Biscoe, and Caryn Callicutt (Donald) of Biscoe; stepson, Clark Eggleston (Marsha) of Asheboro; 9 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; brother, Bobby Hammonds (Nancy) of Asheboro; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 28, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Rushwood Church with Dr. Brent Tysinger and Rev. Jeff Freeman officiating.
