Jackson Lee Ballenger, 70, passed away January 17, 2017 at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro, NC, after an extended illness. He was born in Chapel Hill, NC to the late Lillian Rabb and William J. Ballenger. His father named him Jackson Lee after the famous generals. Jack is a military veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Era on the USS Independence and thus traveling to many countries. He attended Indiana University in Fort Wayne, Indiana. His places of employment include Gilbarco, Inc., Greensboro, NC, Mr. Coney, Inc., Fort Wayne Indiana, Timken, Inc in Randleman and Randleman BP.
Jack enjoyed spending time with family and friends, fishing and watching sports, especially his favorite team, the UNC Tarheels. He was a sweet natured, kind-hearted man whom people loved.
Jack is survived by his son, Jason (Jennifer) Ballenger of Winston-Salem, adopted son Reid Ballenger; sister Donna Pihos-Howell of Winston-Salem, brothers, Anthony Ballenger of Chapel Hill, and Stan (Brenda) Ballenger of Greensboro, NC; sister-in-law, Martha Ballenger of Wilmington; step daughters, Debbie (David) Pegram, Darlene (Jim) Moore and Patricia Privett all of Randleman, NC; step grandchildren, Meredith, David, Amanda, Brittany, Michelle, Jerry and Traci; several nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Jack is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lois Ballenger, brother Bill Ballenger and special friend Sallie Moore.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, January 22, 2017 at 5:00 pm in the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, 600 S. Main St., Randleman, NC. The family will receive friends following the memorial service until 6:30 pm.
