Horace Wayne Scott, age 98 of Asheboro, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 08, 2026 at Randolph Health, Asheboro.

Horace was born November 06, 1927 in Guilford County, NC to Adlai Bryan and Della Mae Vuncannon Scott. Horace was a graduate of Seagrove High School and of the Baptist faith. Horace proudly served our country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Once home from the war, he became the meat market manager at Food Line and later Lowe’s Food. After his career with the meat market, Horace would drive cars for Southern Pride Auto and Strider GMC. When he wasn’t working, Horace enjoyed woodworking, jewelry, and anything he could wheel and deal. In addition to his parents, Horace is preceded in death by his wife, Jean Leach Scott; son, Jackie Wayne Scott; and his brother, James Allen Scott.

Horace is survived by his daughter, Betty Scott Derr; daughter-in-law, Beth Scott; granddaughters, Shelly Scott Cook (Chad), Stacy Scott Ulrick (Kevin); and his great grandchildren, McKenzie Cook, Jackson Cook, and Austin Ulrick.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 11, 2026 from 12:00 PM – 12:50 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave., Asheboro, NC 27203. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM in the Glenn “Mac” Pugh Chapel with Rev. Bryant Madren officiating. At the conclusion of the service, burial will take place at Randolph Memorial Park with military honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
