Henry Earl Small, age 88, of Randleman died Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Randolph Health, Asheboro.
Mr. Small was born September 5, 1930 the son of Henry and Vera Yow Small. Earl was a native of Randolph County and served in the US Naval reserves for 12 years. He worked for several years as a Deputy/Criminal Investigator with the Randolph County Sheriff's Department, he sold insurance and worked visitations and funerals with Pugh Funeral Home for many years. Earl graduated Randleman High School in 1949, was a youth leader at Old Union Methodist Church and in the last several years has been a member of Sophia Baptist Church. Earl was a charter member of Level Cross Civitan's Club and was instrumental in procuring the land for the ball field there. He took great pride in his vegetable garden and yard. He loved his family and his grandchildren were the apple of his eye.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years: Lyde Nance Small of the home; daughter: Sandra Small of Randleman; sons: Forrest Small (Kimberly Standley) of Apex, and Darrin Small (Darlene Williams) of Asheboro; grandchildren: Tyler (Ashley), Karsyn, Katie, Noah, Andrew; sisters: Helen Hutchins (Bill) of Trinity, and Hazel Lamb (John) of Randleman; brother: Paul Small (Jessie) of Randleman; God son: Kyle Lamb (Tammy) of Randleman. He was preceded in death by brother L.J (Mary) of Randleman.
The family will receive friends Thursday, May 23, 2019 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 600 South Main Street, Randleman, NC. The funeral service will be held Friday, May 24, 2019 at 1:00 pm at Sophia Baptist Church, 4082 Millikan Rd., Sophia with Rev. Bill Barnes officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park, Asheboro.
