Frances Barker Varner, 101, of Asheboro passed away May 17th, 2026 at Clapp's Nursing Home in Asheboro, NC. She was born on August 20th, 1924, in Trinity, NC to Charlie Barker and Mary Kirk Barker.
Frances will be remembered as a beloved mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother. She grew up in the Tabernacle area of Randolph County. After graduating from Trinity High School she became a secretary for the Federal Government in conservation services. She was known for her organization and meticulous work. After retiring, she loved to garden, especially flowers, and spend time with friends and family. Frances’ memory will live on in each of our hearts.
Frances is survived by her daughter, Doris Allred (Eddie) of Asheboro; stepsons, Sam Varner, David Varner, Gene Varner; grandchildren, Lorie Steed (John), Scottie Allred (Stephanie), great-grandchildren, Kaley Ledwell (Keishawn), Garrett Allred (Amber Hampton), Kyla Willis, Kaci Willis; great-greatgrandchild, Rylee Ledwell; brother, Leo “Pete” Barker. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husbands, Carl Cheek and Andy Varner; daughter, Donna Willeby; three brothers, and one sister.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 from 1:00 - 1:50 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro. Funeral services start at 2:00 PM in the Glenn “Mac” Pugh Memorial Chapel with Pastor Thomas Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park.
