Frances Steed Moffitt, age 95, of Asheboro died Monday, June 14, 2021 at Randolph Hospice House.
Mrs. Moffitt was born May 17, 1926 in Randolph County to Carl and Jessie Spencer Steed.
Mrs. Moffitt was a 1943 graduate of Asheboro High School and a 1947 graduate of Women's College, now UNC-G with a degree in Social Work. She was an elementary teacher at Lindley Park and McCrary Schools. Mrs. Moffitt went to work for Randolph Community College in 1965 and helped develop the Adult Basic Education program and the Learning Resource Center until her retirement in 1991. Mrs. Moffitt was a member of First United Methodist Church, life-long learner and loved to read and travel.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Moffitt was preceded in death by her husband Robert E. Moffitt, brothers Bobby and Larry Steed, sisters, Gladys Trogdon and Jaunita Beekman.
She is survived by daughters, Lydia M. Upchurch and husband Dan of Waxhaw; Laurie E. Moffitt of Benson; son, Bruce Moffitt and wife Rhonda of Asheboro; grandchildren, Jennifer U. Flynn and husband Sean of Charlotte; Nicholas Upchurch and wife Coree of Belmont, great grandchildren, Laine and Loren Flynn, Paige and Quinn Upchurch of Belmont, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 27, 2021 at 2:00 pm at First United Methodist Church, 224 North Fayetteville Street, Asheboro with Rev. Lynda Ferguson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church parlor. The service will be live streamed at www.fumcasheboro.org.
