Esther Walker Underwood

Esther Walker Underwood, age 94 of Asheboro, NC, died Sunday, May 17, 2026, at the Hospice House of Randolph.

Esther was born in Asheboro, NC to Winslow and Olive Johnson Walker on December 8, 1931.

Esther was a devoted member of Asheboro Friends Meeting where she served on many committees and groups. She taught Sunday school, served as Treasurer, Directed Bible School, and sang in the choir among other activities. She loved her family dearly and always provided a cozy and welcoming home to come and enjoy.  She loved her church and church family and was always willing to jump in and help where needed. Esther enjoyed watching football, especially Oklahoma, and college basketball, and was an avid Duke fan like her husband, Bill.

Esther is survived by her sister Helen Marley (Larry), daughters: Vikki U. Parris; June Underwood, sons: Gil Underwood and Jeff Underwood (Alice), all of Asheboro; grandchildren: Jacob Parris (Molly), Casey Radford (Cort), Evan Underwood (Brittany) and Keli Shepherd (Will); great-grandchildren: Anna, Charlie, Riley Radford, Blakely and Reagan Underwood, and Maxton and Kiley Shepherd. She is preceded in death by her husband: Bill Underwood.

The Graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Oaklawn Cemetery with Revs. Michael Fulp and David Millikan officiating.

There is no formal visitation planned but Esther will Lie in Repose at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, from 2:00-5:00 PM.
