Elizabeth Jane "Janie" Souweine Henderson

December 18, 2020

Elizabeth Jane Souweine Henderson, "Janie," of Asheboro, North Carolina passed away on Friday, December 18 at Green Valley Hospital in Greensboro. Janie was born on May 5, 1956 in High Point, North Carolina to her parents Mary Jane and Jean Souweine, who preceded her in death. She had three loving sisters, her twin Catherine, Marie France, and Sophie who loved to laugh and tease each other. They spent several years of their childhood growing up in Belgium, their father's native country. Eventually they returned to High Point where she graduated from High Point Central in 1974. During her senior year, she met the love of her life and husband, David Henderson. They married in 1979. They had two loving and devoted daughters, Ashley and Rebecca, and together lived a life full of joy, laughter, and adventure. Janie was incredibly hard working and devoted to her many passions. She was a business woman. She started the first floral department in her grandfather's grocery store, Food World. She also owned a private lamp company for many years. Later in life, she was a successful real estate agent from which she retired. She was an advocate for others as was evident in her work as a guardian ad litem where she tenaciously fought for the rights of abused and neglected children. She was passionate about animals. She and David loved their herd of shelties among many other beloved animals that were lucky enough to find their way into their home. She rescued many animals and donated generously to animal rescue efforts. Janie was a huge influence in the lives of many. She was a natural leader, never afraid to take charge of any situation. She was a constant champion for those in need. She was drawn to helping others and took great pride in contributing her time and money to those that didn't have the means or voice to defend themselves. Her absence will be felt significantly. Most important to her were her family and friends. She is survived by her husband and one true love, David Henderson; her doting daughters and their husbands Ashley and Bryan Moody and Rebecca and Philip Mead, both of Asheboro, North Carolina; grandchildren Montgomery and Tess Moody and Monroe and Walker Mead, her fun-loving sisters and their husbands Catherine and David Calloway of High Point, North Carolina, Marie France and Tim Allred of Asheboro, and Sophie and Jimmy Neely of Surfside Beach, South Carolina; many wonderful nieces and nephews, cousins, five boisterous shelties, and one very spoiled but dearly loved yorkie, Olivia. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to organizations that were very close to Janie's heart. Her nurses at Green Valley Hospital who were by her side until her final moments meant so much to her and her family.
