Edith Gallimore Whipkey, age 85, of Randleman, North Carolina, passed away on September 28, 2026, in Asheboro, under the care of Randolph Hospice.

Edith was born on March 17, 1941, in Christiansburg, Virginia, to the late James Thomas Gallimore and Nanny Virginia Craighead.

Growing up in a bustling household as one of fourteen children, Edith learned the value of family and hard work early on. Later in life, she shared 28 wonderful years of marriage with her husband, Albert. Together, they embraced an adventurous spirit and a deep appreciation for the open road. In 2007, the couple embarked on an unforgettable 37-day cross-country journey. With no set destination in mind, Albert drove 13,795 miles as they simply enjoyed the beautiful views together, even crossing the border into Canada.

Their travels also included a memorable 12-day motorhome trip to the Grand Canyon, a story her family loves to tell. Edith hadn't actually secured the time off from work when the trip was being planned, but when Albert kindly informed her that the motorhome was pulling out that Monday regardless, she miraculously managed to get two weeks approved just in time to hit the road. When she wasn't traveling the country, Edith found great joy in the simple pleasures of home. She spent countless hours crafting beautiful quilts, enjoyed raising chickens, and took great pride in canning.

In addition to her parents, Edith was preceded in death by her son, Ray Townson; her daughter, Teresa Rudelt; her brothers, Elmer Gallimore and Fred Gallimore; and her sisters, Grace Sutphin, Lucy M. Pope, and Gladys Joyce.

She is survived by her husband, Albert Whipkey; her son, Mike Gallimore; her brother, Tommy Gallimore; as well as her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Friday, October 2, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 11:00 am at Randolph Memorial Park.
