David Ray Gunter, age 87, of Asheboro died Monday, February 9, 2026 at Randolph Health. David was born December 21, 1938, the son of Walter Madison and Eva Mae Ledwell Gunter. David was a native of Randolph County. He attended Farmer School and loved working in the lumber industry, logging and later working for Asheboro Concrete, Randleman Lumber, McDowell Lumber and working for Hedgecock prior to his retirement. He enjoyed attending Rushwood Park church for many years and loved cooking BBQ with the Wesleyan Men. He enjoyed working in the garden and his yard and loved his family very much.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his wife Betty Gunter; sister, Shelby Hunt; brothers, Harold Gunter and Duane Gunter; and grandchild, Tina Ritter.

David is survived by sons, Tim Trogdon (Terrisa) of Asheboro; Randy Gunter (Tara) of Asheboro; grandchildren Olivia Warner (Steven) of Chapel Hill, Hayden Gunter of Asheboro; great-grandchild Emma Warner; sister Nancy Routh (Steve) of Raleigh; and grand dogs Louie and Sammy.

The family will receive friends Friday, February 13, 2026, from 12:00-1:30 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave., Asheboro, NC. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 pm at Oaklawn Cemetery, Asheboro, NC by Dr. Brent Tysinger.

The family would like to recognize and thank the staff at Alpine Health and Rehabilitation, Terra Bella, and the ladies that stayed with dad prior to moving into assisted living, Stefanie, Paige, Melissa, Skyler, Anne, and Kim. Each of you has a special place in our hearts for the care and love that you showed dad during this past year and, especially, during his last days with us.
