Charles Clayton Dicks, affectionately known as Bill to his family and friends, completed his earthly journey on April 30, 2025. He will be forever remembered as a devoted family man—hardworking, protective, and full of love.
Bill lived a life rich with stories and character. In his younger years, he often recounted his adventures running moonshine, which fueled his lifelong passion for speed and led him into amateur dirt-track racing. He credited his paternal family with instilling in him a deep knowledge of auto mechanics—skills that would become the foundation of his career and his joy.
He served honorably in the United States Army as a member of the Military Police, a twist of fate not lost on those who knew his past. During his military service, Bill completed a tour in Germany, a journey his family believes was the only time he ever left American soil. Upon returning home, he settled into civilian life with his beloved wife and infant daughter, beginning a lifelong career as a mechanic.
Bill was happiest when working with his hands—whether rebuilding engines, building fast cars, or tending his garden. He had a soft spot for animals of all kinds and frequently opened his home and heart to strays, often to the amusement of family members who tried (with varying success) to domesticate the menagerie.
Above all, Bill was a man of deep faith and unwavering values. He provided steadfastly for his family, ensured his girls were raised in church, and taught the importance of hard work, fairness, and compassion.
He is preceded in death by his cherished wife, Joy Lee McDonald Dicks, and his beloved daughter, Leai Dawn Dicks Lassiter.
Bill’s legacy lives on through his adoring granddaughters, Alisha Lassiter of Randleman, NC, and Angela Lassiter (Brad) of Raleigh, NC; and through his nephew, Danny Crabtree (Debbie) of Reidsville, NC, whom he loved as a son. He is also survived by many other nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends who will miss his stories, his strength, and his generous spirit.
The family will receive friends Saturday, May 10, 2025 from 12:00 - 12:50 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 600 S. Main Street in Randleman. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM in the Eddie Pugh Memorial Chapel with Reverend Johnny Miles officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park.
