Obituary

Charles Leslie Bulla, age 79, a lifelong resident and native of Asheboro, North Carolina, passed away on June 28, 2026, at Alpine Health and Rehabilitation.

Charles was born on April 28, 1947, in Randolph County to the late Edsel Bulla and Grace Lamb Bulla.

Charles dedicated over three decades of his life to serving his community, retiring from the Asheboro Police Department after 31 years as a Lieutenant Detective. He was respected for his commitment, integrity, and service to others throughout his career.

Following his retirement, Charles enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He loved horseback riding and owned several horses over the years, with his beloved horse, Traveler, holding a special place in his heart. He enjoyed attending auctions, spending time outdoors, keeping his yard meticulously mowed, and traveling to both the mountains and the beach.

Charles was a faithful member of his church family, first at Back Creek Friends Meeting and later at Mt. Calvary Independent Baptist Church. He especially enjoyed caring for others in his church family and organizing trips so they could enjoy fellowship together. After retiring from law enforcement, he met the love of his life, Ann, and together they shared 19 wonderful years of marriage.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ann Dahl Bulla; and his sister, Linda Bulla.

Charles is survived by his sister, Doris Bulla; his nephew, Mikey Dunn (Stephanie); his niece, Angie Montgomery (Steve), great nephews Billy Davis and Ayden Woods; and many extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all of the caregivers who assisted Charles with care and compassion.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Mt. Calvary Independent Baptist Church 1206 Oakland Ave, with Pastor Neil Poole officiating. Burial will follow at Charlotte United Methodist Church Cemetery 1182 Charlotte Church Rd.
