Cassie Lea McCaskill

Cassie Lea Kelly McCaskill, age 98, of Candor passed away Saturday, August 13, 2022, at Sandy Ridge Memory Care & Assisted Living, Candor, NC. Mrs. McCaskill was born January 14, 1924, in Richmond County, NC, the daughter of Daniel Shuford and Pearlie Mae Harris Kelly. Mrs. McCaskill was a faithful and active member of Hickory Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church where she served as church treasurer for many years. She was a retired employee of the furniture industry where she worked alongside her husband, D.C. for many years. 

She lived a full life as a devoted wife, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and a friend to all. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed making pillows as special gifts for others. She loved to garden and care for her flowers. She especially enjoyed vacationing with her family at Ocean Isle Beach. Most of all, she loved her family and instilled Christian values in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her gentle spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew her. 

She is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, D.C. McCaskill; three brothers: Wilburn, Clinton, and James Kelly; three sisters: Ruby Freeman, Emma Lee Ledbetter, and Irene Loftin; and son-in-law: Robert Caudill. 

She is survived by her children: daughter, Sherry McCaskill Caudill of Star, and son Joe McCaskill and wife, Ann of Capelsie; grandchildren: Laura Moody and husband, Barden of Siler City, Beth Harris and husband, Mark of Star, Katie Hursey and husband, Phillip of Star, Monica McCaskill and Jared McCaskill, both of Capelsie; great-grandchildren: Henry Harris, Maggie Moody, Phinley Hursey, Lucy Moody, and Liam Hursey; sister: Carolyn Story of Mt. Gilead; sister-in-law: Delores Kelly of Candor. 

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, 211 North Main Street, Troy.  The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home with Pastor Doug Shuff, Dr. Edward Lindsay, and Pastor Joe Beane officiating. Interment will be at Hickory Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery, 3885 Pekin Rd., Candor.
