Robert L. "Buddy" Boone, age 95, of Asheboro died Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at Randolph Hospice House.
Buddy was born March 18, 1926 in Randolph County to Eli and Mary Boone.
Buddy served in the US Army during WWII from 1944-1946. During this time he was a Private 1st Class in the 45th Infantry Division, the 180 Infantry Battalion and Company B 4th Platoon. He was stationed in Marseille, Frances and Nuremberg, Germany. Buddy was wounded in action and was a Purple Heart recipient and received the Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars while stationed in Rhineland and Central Europe.
Buddy worked for Sherwin Williams Paint for 37 years ending his career as manager. He was a Mason for close to 70 years, a member of Asheboro Friends where he sang in the choir and also sang with the Asheboro Community Choir. Buddy was a former Scout Leader for Troop 571 and enjoyed wood working.
In addition to his parents, Buddy was preceded in death by his son, Alan Boone and sister, Pauline McCauley.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Mary Beck "Becky" Boone; daughter, Cindy Owens of Wilkesboro; grandchildren, Jonathan Owens and wife Ever of Apex, Julia Owens of Millers Creek; great grandchild, Reagan Owens of Apex.
The family will receive friends Saturday, August 21, 2021 from 6 - 8 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro. Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 22, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Asheboro Friends Meeting, 230 E. Kivett St., Asheboro with Rev. David Millikan officiating. Burial will follow in Randolph Memorial Park with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard and masonic honors by the Balfour Lodge #188 AF & AM.
