Brenda Lee Whitley Taylor

d. December 21, 2021

Brenda Lee Whitley Taylor, age 81, of Asheboro passed gently into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Taylor was born in Florence, SC on August 21, 1940 to James and Edith Chance Whitley.  After graduating from North Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, Brenda was employed as a technical secretary for an architectural engineering firm where she met her husband, Pat Taylor,  63 years ago.  After a year of courtship, Brenda married Pat and within a year was expecting the first of their 4 children. Upon the birth of her first child, Sherrie, Brenda quit work to become a full time mother and homemaker but most importantly, she was a faithful follower of Christ whose life was defined by her faith in her Savior.  Brenda was an active member of both Green Memorial Baptist Church and Central Church of God in Charlotte as well as Sunset Avenue Church of God in Asheboro and truly had a servant’s heart. Over the years she led various Bible Studies, Sunday School classes and the youth group as well as served as a Christian counselor and a member of the Women’s Prison Ministry team. Brenda was an accomplished small business owner with both a home sales sweater business and an antique refinishing/restoration business that helped to pay for her children’s college educations. She was an extraordinary home decorator and an expert seamstress, making many matching outfits for her daughters and even her sister’s wedding dress.  Brenda was very artistic and enjoyed calligraphy as well as cooking for others and gardening, especially roses.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend who made such a tremendous impact on all of those who knew her. In addition to her parents, Brenda was preceded in death by her brother, Jerry Whitley. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Pat Taylor; children, Pamela "Sherrie" Mattocks (Cooper) of Sanford, Gwen Hazlehurst (Tim) of Cary, Jeff Taylor (Migie) of Gastonia, and Rodney Taylor of Minneapolis; 12 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren with another on the way; sister, Kathy James (Jeff) of Longs, SC; her best friend of more than 50 years, Marcia Lowe of Denver, NC; close family friend Cathy McGinn; precious friend Becky Oxendine of Trinity, NC; and a host of other dear friends from Green Memorial Baptist Church, Central Church of God and Sunset Avenue Church of God that are unfortunately too numerous to mention by name. Brenda’s family will be forever grateful for the loving care that Molly (Jernigan) Hunt, Becky Oxendine, Kelly Jernigan and Becky Hoffman provided for Brenda over the past year as well as the compassionate care provided by Hospice of Randolph County the last few weeks. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Sunset Avenue Church of God, 900 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC 27203. Pugh Funeral Home in Asheboro is serving the Taylor family.
