Bill Ray Lovette, age 85, of Asheboro died unexpectedly Thursday, April 8, 2021.
Bill was born January 24, 1936 the son of Jesse and Frieda Goodman Lovette.
Bill was a native of Salisbury, NC and a US Army veteran. He was a passionate lifelong learner with a penchant for history. He held undergraduate degrees from Southern Wesleyan College and Pfeiffer College and a master's degree from Appalachian State University. He taught auto mechanics at Asheboro High School for 33 years, where he mentored many and helped students find lasting trades/careers. His second career was driving tour buses which enabled him to travel and explore. Also, he loved history especially The Revolutionary War, Civil War, John Adams, Abraham Lincoln and many others. He would often start a story with "It happened on this date..." He loved to hop in the car and drive, destination unknown. Bill impacted many lives and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by two daughters: Debra Cornelison and her husband, Dwight, of Lexington, NC and Martha Frye and her husband Farrell of Westerville, OH; grandchildren: Hannah Moore and Vince Cornelison and James Frye; three sisters: Dorothy (Jimmy) Peacock of Kannapolis, NC; Sarah Welch of Salisbury, NC and Louise (Rick) Parks of Kernersville, NC and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive socially distanced friends Monday, April 12, 2021 from 11:30 AM-12:45 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC. The funeral will follow at 1:00 PM in the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be held at Back Creek Friends Meeting Cemetery, 147 Back Creek Church Road, Asheboro, NC 27205 immediately following service.
