Betty Jean Short

August 9, 2021

Betty Jean Sosebee Short, age 85, of Asheboro passed away on Monday, August 9, 2021 at Randolph Health. Mrs. Short was born in Penderlea, NC on September 14, 1935 to Thomas Lavender and Minnie Pearl Sosebee. She was a graduate of Asheboro High School and was retired as the Food Services Director at First Baptist Church in Asheboro. Betty was a life time member of First Baptist Church in Randleman. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her sister, Frances Prevatte. Betty was a beloved wife and caregiver to Bobby, her husband, and wonderful mother and cherished by many friends, neighbors, and children in her life. She was a beautiful soul, leaving many memories, much love, and a legacy of kindness and tradition to be shared by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She loved serving others with hospitality and amazing food from her years of catering weddings and parties for the public to her beautiful wedding cakes. In her later years, she enjoyed preparing small meals and parties for close friends and family and was well known for her dainty Christmas cookies, cheesecakes, cheese rings, pound cakes, and many other goodies. She was a lover of blue birds and flower gardening with a true green thumb. Some of her favorite flowers were zinnias, roses, gerber daisies, and stargazer lilies. Her hummingbirds Pete and Petunia gave her early morning joy. Betty also loved her butterflies and awaited the arrival of the first monarchs to her garden every August. She planted milkweed, raised monarchs, and spent lots of time watching their amazing life transition from the tiniest egg to magnificent and majestic monarch butterflies. She loved sharing monarchs with visitors to her garden and entertained many friends and children for butterfly releases throughout the summer into fall. One of her favorite sayings was, "Do you know God, He paints the wings on every butterfly." To be absent from the body, is to be present with the Lord, and she will meet us again in the heavens. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Bobby Short; daughter, Pamela Vuncannon and husband Jimmy of Asheboro; and twin sister, Barbara Auman of Charlotte; nieces and nephews, Brenda Auman Miller and husband Greg of Wake Forest, Deborah Auman Struhar and husband John of Charlotte, Brian Auman of Charlotte; great nephews, Ben and Jack Miller. Betty's body will lie in repose on Friday, August 13, 2021 from 2:00-5:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro and the family will receive friends on Friday from 5:00-7:00 pm at the funeral home.
