Archie Blair Fairley, Jr., age 85, Asheboro died Friday, January 20, 2017 at his home.
Mr. Fairley, Jr. was born January 19, 1932 in Raleigh to Archie Blair and Macie King Fairley.
Archie graduated from Broughton High School in Raleigh, NC in 1950 where an outstanding teacher award is presented annually in his name. He graduated in 1954 from Duke University followed by his Masters at UNC-Chapel Hill and further studies at NC State, Wake Forest, and Appalachian State Universities.
He served in the U.S. Navy for 13 years and was a lifetime member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. Mr. Fairley was a retired teacher who taught in Edenton, Chapel Hill and at Asheboro High School for 22 years. He was a N.C. Zoo Docent for 30 years and received the volunteer of the year award.
He is survived by his wife, Mary (Mac) Conner Fairley; daughters, Sherry Fairley Davis and husband Christopher M. Davis of Mebane, Beki Fairley Kincheloe of Augusta, GA, Janet Fairley Lawrence and husband Kenneth W. Lawrence of Angier, NC; grandchildren, John Stevenson Kincheloe, Robert Fairley Kincheloe, Kristen Nicole Lawrence; sister, Nancy Fairley Spillman and husband Dr. J. Harry Spillman of Atlanta, GA.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 505 Mountain Road, Asheboro with The Reverend Joe Mitchell officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service in the Parrish Hall.
