Alta Shaw Sasser

Alta Shaw Sasser, age 95, of Albemarle, formerly of Troy, passed peacefully away on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at her home.  

Alta was born on November 2, 1927 in Candor, NC to the late John Kelly and the late Rosa Harris. 

Alta worked as a weaver at Troy Smitherman Mills and retired from Burlington Industries in Ramseur.  She loved sewing quilts, doing jigsaw puzzles, working in her flower garden, and going to watch her grandchildren play ball.  She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Troy.  

Alta is survived by her daughter, Martha McRae (Mike) of Albemarle; step-daughter: Judy Kennedy of Troy; grandchildren: Keith McRae (Renee) and Chesley Kennedy (Vanessa); seven great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by husbands: Thomas Shaw and Eugene Sasser; son: Thomas Shaw III; grandson: Kenneth McRae; son-in-law: Roger Kennedy; six siblings.  

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at First United Methodist Church, Highway 109N, Troy, NC.  A Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Glenn Hancock officiating.  Burial will be at Southside Cemetery, Troy, NC.
