Alan L. Armondi, age 73, of Asheboro, NC passed away on Feb. 9th, 2026 at Randolph Health.
Alan, affectionately known as “Al” by those who knew him was born on September 13th, 1952, in Norwich, New York. He lived his younger years and his first years of marriage with his devoted wife Rachel in Florida before relocating to North Carolina with his job.
Al worked as a Professional Photographer with the Alderman Company in High Point, NC where he was well known by his clients for his exceptional work and dedication to getting the shot “just right” in a way that they knew only he could from years of experience. He retired in 2020 after 45 years with the company. Photography was both a joy and a passion for him not only in his career but also in his personal life. Some of his other passions included fishing, hunting, turkey shoots, telling stories and jokes. He also loved a good lighthearted prank. Alan was quick-witted and could fire off a joke like a skilled gunslinger drawing his pistol. Often sticking around just long enough to get a one-liner in and then gone before you’ve even finished laughing. His penchant for storytelling can’t be overstated. If we collected just one story from every person here today, we could write a book. Weaving tall tales in a way that makes it almost impossible to differentiate between fact and fiction. Even when he tells you a story that made you shake your head in disbelief, a small part of you would wonder if there wasn’t just a nugget of truth wedged in there as well. Alan was a cowboy in a ball cap. He didn’t ride in on a horse with a 10-gallon hat, but he lived by his own code. He wasn’t one to mince words or spare your feelings. He would tell it to you straight, in a way that would make you curse under your breath when you later realized he was right. He wasn’t the type to coddle you when you were feeling sorry for yourself, but he wouldn’t hesitate to do you a favor if you needed a hand. He was a man of few words, but he showed his love by the things he did for you, instead of what he was willing to say.
Another of his biggest passions was music. Starting from a young age he had a love for it. He taught himself to play the banjo, guitar, and mandolin, and could play almost any instrument he picked up. It just came naturally to him.
Alan was preceded in death by his loving wife of forty-five years just one year ago and has missed her dearly since that day.
He is also preceded in death by his Father and Mother, David Eugene and Phyllis Evelyn Armondi.
Alan is survived by his daughter, Melissa A. Armondi (Bruce) of Randleman, NC; daughter Pamela M. Bowman (Chris) of Deltona, FL; son, Jason L. Smith (Amy) of Asheboro, NC, and Jerry R. Smith of Winston-Salem, NC.
Grandchildren, Michael David Diaz, Zachary Bowman, Sarah Bowman, Austin Lee Smith, and Jordan Lee Smith.
Brothers, David Jr. (DJ), Wayne, Daryll, and Doug Armondi. Sisters, Debbie Meade-Lane and Dianna Conklin. Along with many more friends and family members that have a special place for him in their hearts.
Al will be missed deeply by all who knew him.
